Don't Fold Your Arms

from "Get Better":

What you learned may not work. Be ready to switch your approach; and then switch again if you need to.

What if it’s a terrible rehearsal? What else can be done so time isn’t wasted?

If you’re working with one section, you can have others writing in solfege syllables for their parts. There are ways to keep everybody active the entire rehearsal that help to the overall success of the group. Sitting and waiting are not productive.

Skill building is more than singing correct notes and words. If the singers are listening, breathing, thinking, writing, etc. you are giving them agency to become better. I will talk more about this later.

Think to yourself, “If I was a young member of this group, how quickly could I get bored, distracted or into trouble?” It doesn’t take long.
