Promotion and Recruitment

from "Get Better":

You are offering a chance to be part of ‘the greatest classroom in the whole entire school!” Get in their faces.

Students see you at assemblies and school functions. There is always a shortage of supervisors during lunch periods and at recess. There is usually a HALL full of students that STUDY each hour. Don’t be glued to your office during a prep period. Promotion time should never be wasted.

Older students need more coaxing. Tell your students to each get two of their friends to audition for the choir or musical. When I taught high school I told my students to keep their ears open for any time they heard someone singing. And when they found them, to send them to me. It works.

In music a student can have the same teacher year after year. It’s a great way to build relationships and have meaningful positive effect on their school experience.
